Newport village

Hopefully Newport Parish Council will be opposing the extension of the so called landfill site. There are plenty of reasons for the opposition brought up at last nights NPC meeting:-

1. The sheer number of HGVs ( many are juggernaughts ) passing through the village and up Thimblehall Lane. Several in convoy. 150 in one day!!
2. Speeding of said vehicles which rattle our house as they pass through Main Road.
3. The size of the vehicles, some are enormous.
4. Many of the HGVs loads not netted, depositing rubbish all over the village.
5. Damage to roads and kerbs that the HGVs cannot negotiate, Thimblehall Lane has lots of pot holes now.
6. Rubbish being brought from North East and South Bank?
7. Evidence of leaching in to water courses eg rear of Doctors Surgery in Gilberdyke ( samples required ).
8. Evidence of pests especially gulls feeding off exposed waste ( risk of disease including food poisoning from droppings ) and probably rats.
9. Dust and dirt settling out over the village.
10. Appalling smell drifting over the village, which is organic in nature.
11. Poor management of site leading to waste being exposed for long periods ( I've been driving along the M62 for the last couple of months ).
12. Litter spreading around the village due to poor litter control on site.
13. Noise from the site for many neighbours and from the constant flow of HGVs.
14. Evidence that HGVs are starting at 6.00 am and finishing at 10.00 pm.
15. Sheer size of the mountain of waste.
16. Lack of knowledge of what is being tipped, and very importantly

17. Lack of up to date 'Environmental Impact Assessment'

All these issues add up to a serious threat to the health of the residents.

A joint emergency public meeting for Gilberdyke and Newport is required with attendance by Mr Parnaby and Nigel Leighton etc.
