As I understand it the fishing club, who have installed and locked the gates, claim that the land between the gates is owned by them.
I challenge then to show an independent body, such as the Parish Council or one of the ward councillors, the documents which support their claim.
If they cannot provide any material evidence that they own the land then I consider they should remove the gates until ownership is proved.
Even if they can prove that they own the land, I also challenge whether or not a right of way has been established over the decades that the road has been open and regularly used by the general public.
It seems to me that we have as much right to dismantle the gates as the fishing club have to install them, unless of course they can prove that they own the land and that a right of way has not been established.
Perhaps Newport Parish Council will start to communicate regularly with parishioners on what progress they are making on this matter via this web site.
