Speeding through Newport Village

Even though we have now got a speed limit of 30 through the village (about time), i'm still suprised to see that it used like a race track, even more so in the mornings from around 4.30 to 5.30. I feel that the police should be here more to make our village safe for all of us even more so our children. some mornings i have seen cars and even trucks come through at break neck speeds and dont even seem to slow down when the 30 signs light up, MORE needs to be done!!!

Speeding in Newport

The police camera van was in the village this morning (24/8/09) , near the post office. It was interesting, standing at the top of Canal Side East, watching how many motorists approached the cameras and braked at the last moment. An automatic reaction, I am sure, but these devices now pick up cars a fairly long way off.

I soon realised that the majority of drivers who were seemingly well in excess of the speed limit were young ladies, many with children on board. We campaigned for lower speed limits in the main part to protect our young children going to and from school, but from the very limited evidence today it is the mothers of young children who seem to be most oblivious to the dangers of speeding through a village during the school holidays.

I didn't see one van or lorry driver having to slow down.

speeding

No i don't agree with you about the mothers speeding and as you will also be aware that most of the drivers including vans and lorrys would know about the van in the village before they have even got to gilberdyke, also i'm on about the early hours and tea time traffic, when the van is not around, my wife is a driver with a young child and your putting her in the same catagory as the so called other mothers!!! and we strongly disagree with you.
at the end of the day speeding is happening through the village by a large amount of drivers and its only time before someone has to pick up the pieces.

Speeding

I don't put anybody in any category - I simply speak as I find and I have spoken exactly as I found on that particular morning at that particular time.

I am sorry but it is a fact that some mothers with young children do all sorts of things. Some drink and drive, some use their mobile phone whilst driving and some drive without a licence or insurance etc. That doesn't mean to say that your wife does any of these things nor does it mean that other people don't do these things. These are simply facts of life and not something to either agree with or disagree with, unless you are telling me that no mother with a child on board has ever broken the speed limit!!!
